In 2023, a couple of my most popular blog posts were book recommendation posts. The first was all about my very favorite books that I read in 2022, and the second was 23 Books to Read in 2023 (my husbands picks). My husband picks more exciting books than I do.

Anyway, this year, I wanted to give you an updated version. This list is a mix of my recommendations and my husbands. A few of these were included in the 23 Books To Read In 2023 as well because we liked them so much. But most are new recommendations. And there were several book series that we mentioned on this list, so really it’s over 30 books. Sorry, not sorry. But it’s a great starting point, especially if you are trying to reach a book goal this year.

And before we get to the list – I highly recommend checking out the Libby app for your audiobooks and e-books if you don’t already. You just have to connect your library card, and any books that your library has are available. This app does work just like the library though. So you might have to wait on a waitlist for the book to be available, and you get to “check out” the book for 21 days. Many books are available right away, but you will have to wait for some. It might sound inconvenient, but it really isn’t. I usually add a bunch of books to my holds, and I always have a book ready for me. In fact, I often have to pass on a book when it’s available because I already have a couple on my “shelf” that I’m still reading. And because it is through my local library, I can still support our library.

If my library doesn’t have a book, or the wait will be longer than I want, then I go with Audible.

Here, we go – 24 books to read in 2024:

  1. The Cloisters by Katy Hays: My husband added this to my Libby app for me. Not my typically book choice, but I really liked it. I couldn’t put this one down (well, I listened to the audiobook, so I couldn’t put my headphones down).
  2. Green Lights by Matthew McConaughey: This is one that you should definitely go for the audiobook version of. Matthew McConaughey adds so much personality to the audiobook, and it’s amazing. Both my husband and I loved this one.
  3. Balanced And Barefoot by Angela J Hanscom: I’ve mentioned this one in a few other blog posts. It’s a great read for any parent!
  4. The String Diaries by Stephen Lloyd Jones
  5. Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros: This is the first book of two. So, once you finish this one, you can head right into this book.
  6. The Darkening by Sunya Mara: This is another series. You’ll want to read The Lightstruck after this one.
  7. The Self Driven Child by William Stixrud PhD and Ned Johnson: I just finished this one and I loved it. Great book for parents!
  8. The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake
  9. The Bookshop of Secrets by Mollie Rushmeyer
  10. The Corpse Flower by Ann Mette Hancock
  11. The Collector by Ann Mette Hancock
  12. Just Watch Me by Jeff Lindsay
  13. Holly by Stephen King
  14. The Coddling of the American Mind by Greg Lukianoff and Jonathan Haidt: I read this last summer I believe, and it was so interesting. I highly recommend this book.
  15. Glass and Steel Series by CJ Archer: This is one of my husbands recommendations, and there are actually 13 books in the series. I know a lot of people love a good series that they can dive into, so this would be a perfect one to start.
  16. The Glass Library Series by CJ Archer: Another series by the same author from #15. But this one is a shorter series with 5 books (I think).
  17. Atomic Habits by James Clear: This book has been so popular for several years for a good reason. If you haven’t read it yet, 20204 if the year to read it.
  18. How To Win Friends And Influence People by Dale Carnegie: This is an oldie but a goodie. I’ve heard about this one for years, but never got the chance to read it until now.
  19. Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
  20. The Postnatal Depletion Cure by Oscar Serrallach: If you’ve recently had a baby, pregnant or planning to have kids in the future, this is a very good read. It’s all about postnatal depletion, what causes it, how to prevent it, and how to heal after giving birth.
  21. I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy: This book was so heartbreaking. I have a couple friends who also read this over the last year, and recommended it as well.
  22. How To Keep House While Drowning by KC Davis: This is a great read if you are going through a hard, busy season of your life, this is the perfect audiobook for you.
  23. A True Account by Katherine Howe
  24. The 9th Man by Steve Barry

Hopefully this list helps you pick out some great books for the year, especially if you have a big reading goal this year. Let me know in the comments what you are reading this year AND your recommendations for others.
