As a mom, I don’t have tons of time to do my make up each day. And most moms I know are in the same boat. I am always looking for ways to simplify my routine. Having a simple skincare and makeup routine as a mom is a huge help for me. I highly value making time to take care of myself. But any routine longer than 10-15 minutes is just not realistic for me right now. If you’re in the same boat, this post is for you!
First things first though, lately I’ve been making my skin care a bigger priority to help my skin be clear and happy. I’ve been consistent-ish with my skin care, don’t go to sleep with makeup on, drink more water each day and take collagen each day. This has made a huge difference for my skin!
But listen, I’m not a dermatologist. I’m just a busy mom with a real tight budget. So, are there better products out there? For sure. But it’s the best I’ve got for my situation, and I like them all. This simple skincare and makeup routine for moms is perfect if you are looking for a extra easy, budget friendly routine.
Morning Routine
I try to keep my morning skincare and makeup routine quick and easy! Usually I have a couple kids right by my side or banging on the bathroom door while I do this each morning. So it needs to be very uncomplicated:
AM Skincare
Face Wash: CeraVe has been my go to for a while.
Eyes: I use the Tree of Life Eye Bright Eye Gel under my eyes after washing my face. For this one, a little goes a long way, so I use maybe half a pump total under my eyes. I have used several other products from this company, and I like them all. They are affordable, and I can buy them on Amazon.
Moisturizer: For the mornings, I always go for a moisturizer with sunscreen in it. I’ll be grateful when I’m 50. Right now I use the CeraVa Moisturizer.
Makeup Routine
Focusing on my skincare first has really simplified my makeup routine. I know everyone has different skin types and needs. And I know lots of women who prefer to do a full face of makeup. But if you are like me, and love a short and sweet makeup routine that helps you feel put together without taking up your time, then this is for you! Plus, this makeup routine is so simple, that you can easily add in more if you prefer without adding on too much time. I have even taken my makeup with me in the car to do in the passenger seat, or in the parking lot when we arrive.
Face: After my simple skincare routine, I head into face makeup. Since I’ve been focusing more on skincare, I really don’t need much as far as face makeup. All I add is a bit of concealer. Below are the two I love best. For everyday, I grab the Garnier SkinActive roller. But if I am a little extra tired and need some more coverage, I like the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer.
Brows: I think everyone has a different preference for their brows these days. And I’ve found that having my brows done makes such a big difference. Lately, I’ve kind of been leading towards a fluffier brow. I previously used the ELF Wow Brow everyday. But I just found the NYX brow glue and love it!
Lashes: Are fake lashes still cool? I’m not sure I could ever give them up honestly. I love them! Waking up and instantly having great lashes brings me joy. (and I’ll be sharing a step by step of my at home lash extensions soon!)
But every once in a while, I do take a little break from fake lashes for a week or two to give my natural lashes a break. When I have natural lashes, I use the L’oreal Primer first, then either the Maybelline Sky High or L’oreal Voluminous mascara.
Lips: Lipstick is so fun! And if you love lipstick, I highly recommend the Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink Lipstick. I like to keep a neutral color and a “fun” color in my make up bag. If I’m not feeling like lipstick, I at least throw on a lip gloss. I honestly haven’t found a lip gloss I swear by, so if you know of a good one, let me know!
*Quick Tip* Because my kids often join me for my morning routine, I keep a couple extra makeup brushes in my bag that are just for my kids to “do makeup” with me. It keeps their hands busy and they love to be included in my routine. You could also keep play makeup or chapstick specifically for them.
Evening Routine
Usually at the end of the day, all I want to do is lay in bed and watch a show with my husband. The last thing on my mind is skin care. So I’ve tried to make my evening routine as easy as possible. I’m also way more interested in doing my skin care if I wore makeup that day because I don’t want to sleep in my makeup. Now that I’ve been more consistent with my routine, it is more of a habit.
Also, you’ll notice that I use almost the same products in the morning and at night. I just like the simplicity of using the same products for both day and night.
PM Skincare
Face Wash: Same face wash as above! It works well to clean off my makeup. I know some people like to do a makeup wipe first too.
Retinol: The internet experts (who probably aren’t experts at all) say that retinol is VERY important for anti aging. So I use a retinol serum every night. I use the Tree of Life brand again here.
Eyes: I use the Tree of Life Eye Gel here again! Because I am a tired mom, and my under eyes need all the help they can get.
Moisturizer: I use the Equate Triple Repair Face Moisturizer. It’s supposed to be comparable to the Neutrogena one, a better price. I like it a lot, and it makes my skin so soft and hydrated. And like I said above, I’m on a real tight budget. I’m not going to spend $30 on a face cream right now.
And that’s all! It’s a quick and simple skincare and makeup routine, which makes it so doable no matter what my day looks like! And it makes me feel so amazing once it’s done. This is perfect for moms on a tight schedule. And you deserve to have a skincare and makeup routine that makes you feel good. If you know of any other great affordable products, leave them in the comments and I’ll give them a try! And if you also have a simple skincare and makeup routine for moms, share!

[…] Simplify your makeup routine. I love makeup and I wish I still had time for a full face of makeup on Sundays. But I’ve really been loving my simplified routine right now. I have been focusing more on skin care. And all I add after skincare is concealer, brow gel, and lipstick. I have a whole post on my simple and quick makeup and skincare routine here. […]
